Jakobsen, Marianne Skytte. 1996. Breast feeding in developing countries. Promotion and impact on child health. Bandim Health Project, Statens Serum Institut. Department of Epidemiology and Social Medicine, Aarhus University. 91 p.
The present thesis is based on community studies from Guinea Bissau in West Africa, performed between may 1991 and December 1995. The objective of the studies was to investigate the impact of and possibilities for promotion of breast feeding in Guinea Bissau. The studies in this thesis form part of a larger intervention study aimed at reducing diarrhoea morbidity and mortality by promoting breast feeding. The thesis consists of 3 parts. Part 1 is a review of the observations that formed the background of the present studies. Part 2 is a presentation of own data in four studies and part 3 is a general summary and conclusion.
